Today we’re diving into a world of monsters using only our imagination and crafting skills. Not only is this monster craft loads of fun for kids, it is also a perfect shape activity for toddlers or preschoolers learning shapes.
This adorable shape monster craft is perfect for kids of all ages, although preschoolers may get wildly excited at this craft, especially if they can add their photograph as a face. (Trust me, I speak from experience!)
We’re making this shape craft super easy, nothing fancy or complicated, and totally stress-free! Using just coloured markers, cardstock, and glue, you can start this monster craft project right away. (Check out our other shapes crafts too!)

Mix and Match Shape Monster Craft - Supplies

- White cardstock
- Markers
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Google eyes or photo

How to Make a Monster Shape Craft - Instructions:
STEP 1 - Print shape monster template:
First of all, grab a copy of our ready-to-print two-page printable monster template. Just scroll down below and download it. Print it out on white cardstock and gather the rest of the supplies.
STEP 2 - Colour the shapes:
Now it is time to colour your shape monster template. But first, ask the kids which piece from the template they want to use for their monster. In our printable template, we’ve included tons of different shapes to choose from!
Once they’ve chosen their favourite shapes, it’s time to take out the markers and color every piece!
If you want to add an extra-special detail to this fun monster craft, you can use a headshot of your child and make it part of the monster. Kids are going to have a blast!
STEP 3 - Cut out the shapes:
Once you have coloured your chosen shapes it is time to cut out all the pieces. Younger children may need a little help with this.
STEP 4 - Attach the shape pieces:
Now, we have to put our shape monster together. For this, simply glue all the pieces in any way the kids want. There are no rules or shapes to follow; these monsters are totally one-of-a-kind!
Take out the google eyes and glue them onto their monster. But remember, no rules! Spice it up and add two, three, or even five eyes if you wish! After all, these monsters are all about creativity.
