How to make a penguin snack

STEP ONE: Prepare your ingredients

Before you get started on your penguin snack, you'll want to make sure you have all your ingredients ready to go.

Melt the white chocolate candy melts in the microwave in 30-second increments, making sure you stir in between until fully melted. Once melted, transfer the melted chocolate to a piping bag and cut the tip of the bag for easy decorating.

Then, unwrap your chocolate wafer bars and lay them on your workspace before you.

STEP TWO: Decorate the penguin's body

The first part is decorating the penguin's belly. Start by piping a round shape towards the bottom of the chocolate wafer bar and fill it in completely.

Next, generously sprinkle coconut shavings on the chocolate. Add two candies towards the bottom to resemble feet in orange or purple colours. Wait for the chocolate to dry before moving on so that the candies stay in place.

Repeat this process for each penguin snack.

STEP THREE: Decorate the penguin's face

After the chocolate has dried, pipe two small drops of chocolate towards the top and place down the candy eyes.

Then, cut a yellow piece of candy in half. Pipe a drop of chocolate under the eyes in the center and place the candy as shown below to create the penguin's beak.

Repeat this process for each penguin snack.

STEP FOUR: Customise your penguin

Optionally, add any other decorations to your penguin that you'd like. You may opt for other colours of candy melts and candies.

Some ideas to consider include:

  • Decorate a winter scarf or hat with melted chocolate
  • Give the penguin a silly facial expression
  • Add a tiny bow tie on the penguin
  • Add a snowflake shape to the penguin's belly

Penguin recipe substitutions and variations

  • Try using vanilla or strawberry-flavored wafer bars instead of chocolate ones
  • For more flavor, use melted white chocolate chips instead of candy melts
  • Swap out the coconut flakes for things like crushed cookies, graham crackers, granola, cocoa powder, or even rainbow sprinkles.
  • Instead of candy eyes, try using black icing, mini chocolate chips, or even raisins for the eyes.
  • Make these penguin snacks any time of year by using different coloured wafer bars and candies. For example, use red and pink for Valentine's Day.
