STEP 2: Paint the clay pots.

Take your pots and apply a layer of basecoat using acrylic craft paint, then let it dry. Apply a second coat if you think it is necessary.

We used a four-inch clay pot for the orange pot,  a three-inch clay pot for the green pot, and a two-inch clay pot for the black one.

STEP 3: Paint the spools.

Apply a layer of basecoat to the wooden spools and let dry. We painted the large spool in brown and the two smaller spools in a grey shade.

TOP TIP: A little hack you may find useful for this step is to place each spool on a paintbrush handle so you can paint all the sides at once.

STEP 4: Create foam shapes.

Now we'll make the foam shapes. Remember, it's better to draw the shapes onto the foam before cutting them out!

Take the green craft foam, trace a leaf shape with a pencil, and cut it out. Then, cut two small rectangles from the black foam to make Frank's unibrow and continue by tracing and cutting out two bat wings and two small triangles from the same black foam.

STEP 5: Start putting the pots together.

Using a glue gun, attach all the face features to the clay pots. If you're not sure about the placement, take a look at the picture below for guidance. (Adults supervision may be needed with the glue gun depending on age for safety reasons)

STEP 6: Draw the features and details!

Take a black permanent marker and draw some details to each pot. For the black bat, add the details using a white gel pen!

Your Halloween pots are ready! Now it's just a matter of how you use them. We love the idea of filling them with Halloween candy to make a Halloween themed playdate or party more fun or you could use them as decor or even give them away as a cool gift.

And let's be honest, kids will probably want to display these clay pot crafts all year, so you could also use this Halloween craft as something more permanent like a pencil holder. Enjoy!
