Who is Andy Warhol?

Ok, so we mentioned that this piece of flower pop art is inspired by Andy Warhol, but who is he?

Andy Warhol is one of the most influential figures in the 20th century. He was an American artist born in 1928 in Pennsylvania.

Warhol started his art career as an illustrator for fashion magazines, and it didn't take long for him to begin exploring his fascination with celebrity culture through his work. For Warhol, art was a project, and he rebelled against traditional ways to see art, like the rest of the artists who were part of the pop art movement.

Warhol used a printing process called silk-printing to produce art on a broad level, creating the same image multiples times but with different colours. This technique allowed him to mass-produce art pieces, which was something utterly revolutionary at the time.

Using advertisements, imagery from movies, comic books, and household brands, Warhol took everyday life and turned it into art for the masses.

We have taken on the idea of repeating images multiples of times to create our own pop-art inspired flowers, Warhol-style! We were inspired by Andy Warhols Flowers which can be seen here

STEP 2: Colour the pop art printable.

Using any mediums you want, colour each section of the printable template. We used watercolours, but oil pastels, markers, pencils, crayons or anything you have nearby will do.

Begin by colouring the background for each section using bright bold colours. We chose different shades of green.

STEP 3: Paint the flowers.

To recreate the vibrant pop-art look, use a contrasting colour for the flowers. In our example we used pink and red.

STEP 4: Finalise your flower art.

Using scissors, trim off the border, and feel free to add any extra details to glam-up these flowers! Beads, glitter, metallic markers... anything your pop-art heart desires! We chose to use small black beads.
