Monster Leaf Puppets

Get outside with the kids this Autumn and collect some interesting leaves to turn into Monster leaf puppets. Making and playing with puppets is always popular with young children.  Today we are sharing our monster leaf puppets which we made after reading 'Go Away Big Green Monster' by Ed Emberley.  This is a perfect book related craft for toddlers and preschoolers.

We love making puppets. Take a look at our superhero puppets, goldilocks and the three bear puppets and our bird puppet

Making leaf puppets is fun to do year after year. Take a look at our collection of leaf men, leaf animals and leaf monsters that we made last year after reading the book 'Leaf Man' by Lois Ehlert.

Todays craft was based on the story 'Go Away Big Green Monster' by Ed Emberley.  Get your copy below or scroll down to see a video of the story.

Monster Leaf Puppet Craft

After reading the story we went on an Autumn walk to collect some leaves that we thought would make good monsters. We brought our collection of leaves inside and started to decorate them.

We used chalk pens to add some colour to the leaves and then we put them through a laminator.

We cut the laminated leaves out, taped a craft stick to the back of each leaf and added details to turn the leaves into monsters.  We used lots of googly eyes, fethers and sequins to create our monsters.

We left our monster leaf puppets to dry and then used them to do some puppet shows for each other.

We had fun describing our monsters and telling them to go away like in the story.
