Activities and crafts you can do indoors are a lifesaver when the weather isn't so good, and the kids are running wild.

This adorable penguin craft is a short and sweet indoor craft that’s super simple, but also tons of fun! It will keep your kids occupied and enjoying some crafting time on one of those cold winter days.

These penguin bookmarks are just too cute for words! You can use this penguin craft to mark the pages as you read, but we also love using it as a reading pointer for tracking words.

Penguin Bookmark Craft - Instructions:

STEP 1: Prepare penguin template

To get the penguin template, scroll down to the bottom of the page and download it. Then print the template out and cut out each shape neatly.

Then, take the black, orange and white craft paper. Trace the cutout shapes from the template onto the corresponding coloured craft paper. Use the image below for guidance.

On the black craft paper, trace the outer shape of the penguin and the flippers. Then the inner penguin shape should be trace onto the white craft paper. Finally trace the small triangle that will be the beak and the penguin's feet onto the orange craft paper.

Cut out each shape from the coloured craft papers.

STEP 2: Glue penguin cut outs.

Glue the white cutout onto the black penguin shape.

On the bottom side of your penguin's shape glue on the feet cutouts.

Now it is time to glue on the first flipper. Use the image below as a guide, but make sure you only add glue to the top of the flipper. When using this penguin craft as a bookmark you want the bottom of the flippers to be able to go over the top of a page to mark where you have got to.

In the same way, glue on the other flipper. Again make sure the bottom side of the flippers is glue-free.

STEP 3: Add details to your penguin craft!

Now it is time to personalise your penguin bookmark craft. Grab the googly eyes and the beak and glue them on. If you want to add some more details, go ahead! We added blushes on the cheeks using pink cutouts but you can also use a pink highlighter or marker.

Use coloured craft paper to make the penguins hats if you wish and glue them on to the top of your penguin's head.

We used red craft paper for our winter hats with a white trim and white topper. You could switch the colour of your winter hats, add patterns or designs or even have no hats at all. The choice is yours!

Now all that is left to do is use your penguin bookmarks to mark your page when your are reading or as a pointer to follow the words.
