Time to get creative! Today we're sharing a few awesome Printable Tree Templates and one unique painting technique. The black glue tree craft made using our free tree template is perfect for getting our little ones to explore their creativity and welcome Fall in a fun way, but what is really great about these tree templates is that they can be used for any season and for so many different crafts. It would be really fun to use them to make a tree craft for every season.

Most of these tree templates are ideal for colouring with crayons, pencils, markers or paint, so even the youngest kids can have fun colouring away.
But we've also included some templates with more detailed designs that can work amazingly for other art and craft techniques.
The tree craft we have added directions for below is perfect for autumn, but add green leaves for summer, blossom for spring or snow for winter and it works for any season. Because all the tree templates are black and white and have no leaves, you can use them all year round, no matter the season!

Printable Tree Template Craft Ideas
Here are a few ideas of different ways you can use the free tree templates for a variety of tree crafts.
- Keep it simple and add leaves to the trees using crayons, markers or paint.
- Use a black glue outline and watercolours (scroll down for directions).
- Make a salt painting tree craft. This is such a fun technique to try!
- Use fingerprints. Make a keepsake and craft in one by dipping little fingers into paint and then onto the tree template to create the leaves
- Use Q tips (cotton buds). Another fun way to make leaves is to dip Q tips into paint and then onto the tree template. Make a bundle of Q tips, using an elastic band to keep them together. This is a great way to create lots of leaves quickly.
- Use the end of a cork as a stamp to make leaves.
- Glue real leaves onto the template to complete your tree.
- Use real leaves to make leaf prints. Either dip them in paint and then print them onto the tree template or place them under the tree template and use a crayon to do a leaf rubbing.
- Scrunch up small pieces of coloured tissue paper and stick them to the tree template.
These are just a few ways you can use the printables. When it comes to crafts, the sky is the limit with these tree templates!
How to use the free printable tree templates with black glue and watercolour paint
Black Glue Tree Craft Supplies:
- Tree template
- White school glue
- Black liquid tempera paint
- Watercolor paints
- Water
- Paintbrush
Tree Craft Instructions:
STEP 1: Grab the free tree templates below and let's get started!
To start, look through all the printable tree templates and decide which one you would like to use for your black glue tree craft.
Now it is time to prepare the black glue paint. Mix the black tempera paint with the glue using a 1 tablespoon to 4 ounces ratio. Using more black paint and less glue will make a runnier mixture. Because we will be tracing lines with this paint, I recommend testing out the flow from the nozzle and tighten it if you need to.
Pick your paper. I recommend using a thick paper similar to cardstock for the best results. Print your chosen tree template onto your paper.
STEP 2: Start creating your tree art.
Now it's time for painting the black glue outline! Take your black glue paint and the template. Start tracing the tree lines with the black glue. For smaller branches use a toothpick, or a similar tool to spread out the black glue. Wait for the glue to dry completely before moving to the next step.
STEP 3: Add the colors.
Once you've checked the black glue is dry, it's time to paint your tree using your favourite colours. If you want to create an autumn tree like we have use orange, yellow and red shades of watercolour paint. Add small splodges of each colour and let them mix together a little.
This black glue and watercolour craft is such a marvellous tree craft to make with kids of all ages! For the youngest of children you might need to help with the black glue outline, but they will love using watercolour paint to add colourful leaves to the tree themselves.
