If you've never engaged in small world play before, don't worry. It's super simple to do! These characters will help young children to imagine themselves and family members in certain situations. In doing so, they learn to develop language and communication through storytelling. Small world play stimulates imagination as they think up different stories. You get to watch their little minds at work!

The best part though is how simple these mini me's are to put together! They're a laminated photo stuck onto a wooden block. This all about me activity couldn't be any easier!

Small world play supplies:

  • Full length photos
  • Laminator and laminating pouches
  • Small wooden blocks
  • Double sided tape

All about me activity directions:

STEP 1: Prepare your photographs

Choose a few photographs of your toddler or preschooler, family members, or friends for the characters - anyone that is really important to them! (Just make sure it is a full body photo.)

Reduce the photographs down in size and then print them out in colour. Cut around the figures and laminate them, trying to make each of them a similar size.

STEP 2: Make mini me characters

Tape each photo to a small wooden block with double-sided tape. Repeat for each character you've selected.

Note: for younger children, you may want to attach the photos to larger blocks so they're easier to hold. If you don't have any wooden blocks, cardboard tubes or small drink containers will work well.
