Homemade Sidewalk Chalk Paint
Sidewalk chalk paint ingredients:
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cup cornstarch
- Water
- Food dye
- Vinegar
How to make sidewalk chalk paint
STEP 1: Round up all your supplies
Before you begin, be sure to gather all you supplies so you have them readily available. You'll also want to grab a squirt or squeeze bottle, muffin tin or small bowls, and paint brushes for when you begin playing.
STEP 2: Mix together the sidewalk paint
To get started, mix together the baking soda and cornstarch.
Then, add a small amount of water and stir together. Continue to add water until the consistency is close to finger paint.
Next, divide the mixture and add food dye to create different vibrant colours; stir to combine.
STEP 3: Create paintings on the sidewalk
Now, add the different colours into a muffin tin or some small bowls. (old baby food containers also work really well!)
Have your children paint different pictures on the sidewalk! Please note that you may need to occasionally mix the paints again as the ingredients will settle.
STEP 4: Activate the sidewalk chalk paint
Once they're finished painting, fill a squirt or squeeze bottle with vinegar and invite them to make their artwork fizz.
Kids will love to watch the reaction between the baking soda and vinegar. This is such a fun outdoor art activity for them!
STEP 4: Clean up
To clean up after your fun experiment, rinse the sidewalk off with water. That's it!
