One quick note: it is very important to use the origami paper for this origami jumping frogs craft. The paper is precut into the exact right size and is very thin which makes it perfect for jumping. While you can use other paper, it is not recommended and you can get the papers really cheaply. If you do choose other kinds of paper, make sure to cut them into 6-inch squares.

Directions to make your origami frog:

STEP 1: Gather your supplies

First things first - make sure to get your origami papers and cupcake liners out before you start to make your origami jumping frog! It makes it sooooo much easier when you're not running off looking for stuff. To make your origami jumping frog look closely at the step by step images below and follow our simple instructions.

STEP 1: Fold your origami jumping frog

Once you have your supplies for the origami frog, pull out a piece of origami paper and fold it in half.

Then, pull the top right hand corner over to form a triangle on the top half of the paper and crease it.

Once you've done that, unfold it and repeat on each of the other corners.

Now, unfold your paper and you should have two "X" shapes and a diamond shape in the center from your paper folding (see the bottom left image below).

On the top half of your paper, carefully pull inwards from your "X" shape to form a triangle and crease it into place. At this point, it should visually resemble a house.

Repeat this step for the bottom half of your paper. It should now be folded up into a diamond shape.

Now, starting from the top, fold the left corner of the triangle up and crease. Repeat this step on the right side.

Next, fold the top left of your paper back down from the previous step. This will resemble your frog's arms. Repeat on the other side and then repeat the previous steps on the bottom half of your origami frog.

Now, flip your paper over and fold the bottom of the diamond that is between the bottom legs upward and crease it. Take the left side of the diamond and pull it towards the center to form a triangle and crease. Repeat these steps on the right side and see your frog starting to form!

Flip the origami frog over, and fold the frog in half in between the bottom two legs where you folded upward on the other side previously and crease well. This is where the "spring" for frog jumping will start to form.

First, gather up your cupcake liners and draw consecutive numbers on the bottom. Make your frogs jump and earn points if they land inside. This is a great number recognition and counting game for toddlers and preschoolers that are learning to identify numbers. You could see if your child can name the number that their frog lands on or you could see if they could make the frogs land on the different numbers in order!

Slightly older children or children that are ready for a bit more of a challenge can play a fun numer game where they have several turns and add the numbers together.

An alternative number game for kids could be to count how many times they can make their frog flip! They could record their scores and see who gets the highest.
