Human Body Sensory Tray Activity for Kids

Kids have curious little minds especially when it comes to the human body. But when it comes to finding out what is inside our bodies it's a difficult topic to talk about, at least in a fun way as we can't see inside our bodies. That's why I love this activity, it's a fun and creative approach to an important, yet not so creative topic.

If this theme interests you, we have more human body activities in store for you! Just check them out:

How to set up a Human Body Sensory Tray

Exploring the human body activities for kids

STEP 1: Print the template

First, scroll down and grab our human body sensory activity printable. Once that step is done, print out all the images and laminate them,  then cut out each piece.

STEP 2: Fill your Sensory Bin

Take your red and white water beads and add them to a small bin or tray along with a jug full of water, a red tray works especially well. The water beads will need to left in the water for several hours (or overnight) to grow to a good size. Once you are happy with the size the water beads have grown to remove any extra water from your tray.

STEP 3: Add some details.

Add your printables to the tray filled with water beads and then complete the sensory bin by adding a few extra red or white items, for example a few red pom-pom balls and dark buttons.

STEP 4: Jump in to play!

Mix everything in the sensory bin and invite your kids to explore it with you. You can start by asking them to find different organs giving them clues about their shape. You can then take this further if you wish by explaining a little about how each organ works and helps our body every day!

Extra Learning Ideas:

You could get some books about the human body to read alongside playing with your human body sensory tray.

Why not print out two copies of the body parts and see if you find matching pairs in the sensory bin.

Talk about where on your own body you would find the different organs.
