Hot Chocolate Bombs Recipe:

STEP 1: Prepare Ingredients

Get all your ingredients and supplies ready. There are lots of things needed to make these hot chocolate bombs so be prepared and have everything ready ahead of time.

STEP 2: Make the candy melt mixture.

Begin by putting the pink candy melts in a glass bowl and microwave them for one minute at 50% power.

Take the bowl out of the microwave, stir and then continue to heat it up in 30-second intervals until all the candy melts are melted and have a creamy consistency.

STEP 3: Start making your spheres.

Start making the first half of your spheres using the pink candy melt mixture.  Prepare the silicone sphere mold by placing it on a tray or baking sheet. Using a spoon, take the pink candy melt mix we just microwaved and place it into three of the molds.

Using a spatula or the back of your spoon, coat the mold's inside, making sure to make the edges thicker to make them more sturdy.

Get all the sides evenly coated; this is important to get the best bomb shape.  If the candy melt mix pools at the bottom, make sure to spread again until everything is coated well. Set it aside to cool.

STEP 4: Melt your chocolate.

Now it is time to make the chocolate half of the spheres. Chop around 3/4 of the dark chocolate bar. Then, microwave it in a glass bowl for about 30 seconds at 50% power.

Remove the chocolate from the microwave and stir. Put it once more back into the microwave and heat it up for 15 seconds. Stir, and once it starts to look melted with only a few chunks left, you can insert the candy thermometer into the chocolate.

When you do this, you should aim for your dark chocolate to be around 90℉ - no higher than that as the chocolate can be untempered, and the results end up looking chalky and stripy.

Once you reach the correct temperature, keep stirring until your chocolate is creamlike and lump-free.

Spoon approximately a tbsp of the melted dark chocolate into each of the three remaining molds. Spread around the edges.

Now, place the mold in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 minutes to cool the chocolate down a bit and then take it out. Add a second layer of chocolate around the outer sides of the mold.

Because the chocolate is thinner than your candy melts, you must make two coating layers. This step will help avoid any cracks on your sphere when removing it from the silicone mold.

Once you are finished coating all the molds, let them set in your refrigerator for about 10 minutes.

STEP 4: Start prepping the chocolate bombs.

Now is time to remove the candy melt and chocolate spheres from the mold. So, take the mold out of the fridge and gently pull the mold's sides away. Then, slowly push the bottom of the mold up to remove your spheres completely.

Place them on a serving tray or cookie sheet. We decided to use parchment paper for the next steps. Remember not to touch the spheres too much to avoid fingerprint smudges or melting. You may choose to use food-safe gloves for this step.

STEP 5: Put together the chocolate bombs.

Microwave two empty plates for about 20 seconds. Remove them from the microwave and place your pink sphere open side down onto one of the plates (see image below).

Move it around a little bit so the edges become a bit melted and then, flip the sphere back over and fill it with a large tbsp of hot cocoa mix and a few marshmallows.

Get the second plate and place the chocolate sphere on it. Twist around the edges just like before to make the chocolate around the edges melt a little and then place it on top of the pink sphere.

When you do this, you may get some cracks, but if this happens don't worry. Just heat up a spoon in hot water, dry it and then use the warm spoon to smooth around the crack's seam.

STEP 7: Decorate hot chocolate bombs.

Now it is time to decorate your hot chocolate bombs. For this step, you will be repeating STEP 2, but this time, you'll place the red candy melts in the microwave.

Once these are melted and smooth, take a sandwich bag, drape it around your hand, fill it with the melted red candy melts. Then, cut a small hole at the tip with scissors.
