Autumn Playdough Activity

As we head into Autumn and the leaves are beginning to fall from the trees it is the perfect time to go out on a nature walk with the kids to collect some leaves. This Autumn playdough activity is easy to set up, perfect for toddlers and preschoolers and lots of fun!

You can buy playdough for this autumn tree activity or use one of our playdough recipes. This Autumn scented playdough would be perfect to use.

Autumn Playdough Activity

For this nature playdough activity you will need:

• Colorful Leaves (collect some real leaves of use fake leaves)
• Brown / Grey playdough

You will need a grey or brown playdough for the tree trunk and branches. If you don't have grey or brown playdough have fun mixing different playdough colors together to mix up your own shade of grey or brown. Alternatively you could use clay. 

Autumn tree playdough activity directions:

STEP 1: Collect leaves

Take a nature walk with your kids and invite them to pick a handful of leaves. Talk about the colors, shapes and sizes of the leaves. If it isn't possible to collect real leaves for this activity use fake leaves.

STEP 2: Make a tree trunk and branches

Tear the playdough into two sections, with one being larger than the other. Roll the biggest section into the shape of a tree trunk.

Begin tearing off bits of the remaining playdough. Form several branches and attach them to the tree trunk. As you can see, I did two bigger branches, with 2 forked sections on each limb.

STEP 3: Add leaves 

Invite your child to attach the leaves they gathered to the branches of the tree to make their own playdough autumn tree.

Toddlers and preschoolers will love this Autumn playdough activity as there is no right or wrong way to go about it. They can just have fun collecting leaves and then adding playdough to make their own Autumn playdough tree!
