Supplies needed for your baby Jesus in a manger nativity craft


  • Nativity printable
  • Paper plate
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Yarn: yellow and brown
  • Glue stick
  • Black marker
  • Crayons: brown, yellow, and light blue

Directions to make your baby Jesus in a manger nativity craft


STEP 1: Gather your supplies


Before you get started, gather up all the supplies that you will need to make this baby Jesus in a manager craft.

STEP 2: Prepare the template


Start by preparing your nativity template! Download, print, and cut out the template. Then, colour in the star and baby Jesus. Draw a face on baby Jesus using a black marker.

STEP 3: Create the star


Next, it's time to create the star that will go above baby Jesus in a manger. Start by cutting out the inner circle of the paper plate leaving a small portion of the top as shown below.

Flip the circle upwards and glue the star to the center. Then, use a hold punch to punch a hole at each point of the star and lace the yellow yarn through the holes in a star pattern. Tie off the loose ends at the back to secure it in place.

STEP 4: Create the manger


Once you've created the star, it's time to make the manger! Start by colouring the bottom half of the outer part of the paper plate with brown crayon. Then, use the hole punch to punch holes along the portion you just coloured.

Next, thread the yarn through the holes to create a random pattern that mimics straw like the one shown below. Tie the loose ends off at the back to secure in place.

STEP 5: Finalize nativity craft


You can either finish the manger there and glue baby Jesus in the manger or if you want to add extra detail to your nativity craft you can add additional star beams by weaving more yellow yarn, connecting the two bottom two points of the star to the top holes of the straw bed as shown below.
