One of the greatest things this tugging ribbon activity offers it’s that you can make it with things you probably have lying around your house. You can recycle any cardboard box and turn it into a marvellous activity, a perfect game to improve fine motor skills for both babies and toddlers.

We have tons of different fine motor activities for little ones, here are a few of our faves:

How to make a tugging box:

STEP 1: Start by getting your box ready

Get your cardboard box, open it and make small holes using scissors (but don't go too big when you're doing this, you don’t want holes so big that the ribbon can slip through when your child pulls on it).

STEP 2: Prepare the ribbons

Find some brightly coloured ribbons and cut strips of them in many lengths, always making sure they're longer than the box and tie a knot at the end. Thinner ribbons will require double or triple knots. Check the knot size; it needs to be large enough not to end up being pulled through the hole in the cardboard box when the kids are pulling at it.

STEP 3: Tie everything together

Thread the ribbon through the holes and out the other side of the box. Make another knot on that side. Make sure all the knots are tightened securely.

STEP 4: Playtime!

Now you're done and it's playtime! Just show your little one how to play with the tugging box and let the fun begin!
