Supplies for your paper plate turkey craft


  • 1 large sized paper plate
  • 2 small sized paper plate
  • Cardstock paper - red, blue, orange, green, white, and yellow
  • Coloured pencils
  • Brown craft paint
  • Scissors
  • 1-inch circle hole punch
  • Paint brush
  • Hot glue (or craft glue)

STEP 1: Gather up all your supplies


Before you get started, gather up all your supplies for your paper plate turkey craft. This saves A TON of time - especially with crafts that have lots of supplies like this one.

STEP 2: Prepare the paper plates


Once you have all your supplies, it's time to start your paper plate craft! To get started, lay out a piece of scrap paper to protect your table and paint the top of each of your paper plates with brown craft paint and let it dry. Once it dries, glue the small plate to the bottom of the large plate.

Toddlers and preschoolers will love getting messy as they paint their paper plates. Have fun and let them paint it anyway they choose whether that be with a brush, their hands or something else!

STEP 3: Prepare the turkey feathers


Carefully cut out 5 triangles from your remaining plate. Cut them in the shape of pizza slices and then trim the edges to round the corners. Colour each turkey feather with a different colour using the coloured pencils.

STEP 4: Assemble the paper plate turkey


Once you've prepared the turkey feathers, glue them behind the large paper plate by applying glue to the tip and pressing firmly.

Next, cut out a large yellow triangle as a beak, a red wattle, and 2 white circles for eyes. Glue the eyes, beak, and wattle onto the small brown plate and then dot the eyes with a pencil.

STEP 5: Cut out coloured circles


Use a large hole punch to punch out different coloured circles from cardstock to match the colours of the feathers. As an alternative you could also use coloured stickers.

STEP 6: Engage in the colour match activity 


This last part is the most fun! Have your toddler or preschooler match the coloured circles or stickers to the correct coloured feathers. You could glue or stick them on or just lay them in place so the activity can be repeated at a later date.
