Using our mitten template, cotton balls, and a couple of other everyday materials you will likely already have at home, you can create this cute mitten craft whilst having a total blast with your little ones!

This craft makes for a great indoor activity to keep the kids busy and thriving. You can also use it to practice fine motor skills or add an educational spin to it and use it to go over some simple wintertime facts!

The free printable mitten template available at the bottom of the page can be used for the cotton ball mitten craft in the directions below or for designing your own mitten craft! 

There are many ways the mitten outline can be used. You could make handprint mittens by adding a handprint to the centre of the mitten outline, you could decorate the mitten with paints or markers, or you could add two mittens together with yarn to make a pair of mittens. 

There are so many options! We had a lot of fun making the cotton ball mitten craft in the directions below. 


Mitten Craft - Supplies:


  • Mitten template
  • Cotton balls
  • Cardstock of various colours
  • White marker
  • Decorations like sequins or stickers. 
  • Yarn
  • Hole punch
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Cotton Ball Mitten Craft - Instructions:



STEP 1: Print the mitten template.



To begin making the mitten craft, you need to print out the mitten template. Scroll down below and download it! Once you have your mitten outline, cut out each mitten shape carefully using scissors and then grab the rest of your supplies.

STEP 2: Trace the mitten outlines.



Grab the coloured cardstock you've chosen to work with and start tracing the mitten outline onto it using a pencil. Do this step twice.

Once you have both mitten outlines traced out, cut them out. Make sure to turn one over, so you get one left-hand mitten and one right-hand mitten.

STEP 3: Decorating your mitten shape



Using your hole puncher, make a hole on the top corner of the thumbs and then start decorating your mitten shape!

Invite the little ones to use their favourite decorations like sequins. Use white markers to add some frosty details. Encourage the kids to be creative; the sky's the limit!

STEP 4:  Add cotton balls to the mitten craft.



Once you have finished decorating your mitten craft, take the cotton balls and glue them along the wrist section of each mitten.

STEP 5: Add yarn to your mitten craft.



Using scissors, cut a piece of yarn and bring each end of the yarn strand through both holes you made on the mittens.

Tie the yarn to join both mittens together, and cut any excess yarn to finish off this cute mitten craft!
