Harry and Daisy had great fun mixing up and playing with the salt dough. They each made a handprint and then used the rest of the salt dough to press their toys into to make 'fossils'.

Simple instructions on how to make a salt dough handprint frame. Valentines day craft for kids. Mothers day gift. Suitable for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, eyfs.

How to make a salt dough handprint frame:

  1. Mix up a batch of salt dough using this recipe
  2. Flatten your salt dough until its about 1cm thick.
  3. Press your child's hand into the salt dough.
  4. Carefully cut around the handprint with a sharp knife.
  5. Cut a heart shape out of the handprint using a heart biscuit cutter.
  6. Leave your salt dough to dry.  You can dry the salt dough out by putting it in the oven at a low temperature for a few hours or you can leave it in a warm room for a couple of days.
  7. Once the salt dough is completely dry paint your handprint frame if you wish. I painted one and left one natural.
  8. Seal your creation.  We used mod podge all in one glue and sealer. (This is important if you want your keepsake frame to last)
  9. Glue a small photograph behind the heart cut out.
  10. You might want to glue on a picture hook if you want to hang your photo frames up or add a strong magnet if you want them to go on your fridge. Ours are just propped up against the window.

  1. These are adorable. I wanted to let you know that I am featuring these with a photo and a link if you don't mind.

  2. What protects the picture on the back of the hand?

    1. There is nothing to protect it on the back. You will need to print your photo onto card or photographic paper so the picture is thick enough not to easily get damaged. You could always add an extra piece of card on the back if you are worried.

  3. You should laminate the picture
