Easy Homemade Rainbow Playdough Recipe



Ingredients for your rainbow coloured playdough:


  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 
  • Red, orange, yellow, green and blue food colouring 
  • Extra fine glitter (optional)
Note: you will need these ingredients for each color that you want to do.

STEP 1: Gather all your ingredients


First things first - gather all your ingredients before following our easy homemade playdough recipe. Be sure you have the correct amounts for each colour so you're not running around your kitchen searching for more! Being prepared just makes things SO MUCH easier.

STEP 2: Combine ingredients


Now that you have all your ingredients, it's time to get started with making your rainbow coloured playdough! In a small pot, combine the flour, water, salt, vegetable oil, and cream of tartar. Then add a few drops of your first food colouring and mix well.

STEP 3: Cook the coloured playdough


Next, cook the playdough mixture on the stovetop on a medium heat for a couple of minutes, stirring constantly until you reach your desired playdough consistency. Carefully remove the playdough from the stovetop - it will be very hot!

STEP 4: Roll the playdough into a ball and repeat previous steps


Once the playdough cools down, roll it into a ball and place into a ziplock bag. Repeat the previous two steps for each colour - red, orange, yellow, green, and blue.

STEP 5: Form the rainbow coloured playdough and add glitter


After you have a ball of playdough for each colour, place them next to each other and combine them to create a rainbow coloured ball of playdough. For extra sparkle roll your rainbow coloured playdough ball in glitter.
