Homemade Christmas Gift Bags

I love getting the kids involved in making homemade Christmas gifts. This year we have decided to go one step further and make homemade christmas gift bags to put them in. These DIY gifts bags are easy enough for toddlers and preschoolers to make and every bags looks unique. You could easily use the same technique to make homemade gift wrap by printing onto a roll of brown paper instead of brown paper bags.

Christmas is such a magical time of year, full of fun crafts and activities. Making things for loved ones is always top of our list of things to do as we head towards December. Take a look at our Christmas countdown full of activities to try over the festive period.

If you like making homemade gifts as much as we do then you will love our collection of DIY keepsake craft ideas. The ideas in this list make beautiful gifts for family and close friends and they would all go perfectly with these lovely homemade gift bags.

The thing that I love most about these homemade gift bags is that they are all totally unique. Each child will make them completely differently even if they are given the same resources to use. You could also make wrapping paper in a similar way by printing onto brown paper. You could also try doing some shape painting onto the bags or paper.

I have listed the items we used, you can however decorate your bags using anything you like! The Christmas sponges are a real favourite of mine.

Homemade Christmas Gift Bags

We began m
aking our Christmas gift bags by dipping Christmas sponges into paint and printing them onto our brown paper bags.

I set up red paint for the stockings, green paint for the Christmas trees and white paint for the snowmen.  However the colours were all mixed up by the end of this activity and Harry asked for me to get him some blue paint.

You could use the Christmas sponges to make a pattern across the bag, you could just print one or two Christmas shapes, or you could make a whole Christmas scene! Daisy decided that she fancied doing a bit of hand printing too.

The children loved this so much that they quickly went through my packet of 10 paper bags! I wrote love Daisy or love harry on the handle of each of the bags so that I would know who they belonged to.

Once the paint had dried we added some detail using gold and silver pens.

Then we got out some glue, sequins and glitter to add a bit of sparkle to our bags.

We had a great collection of Christmas gift bags by the time we had finished.  The children loved being able to be creative and paint and stick in anyway they pleased.

We added some brown gift tags to match which I stamped with a Merry Christmas message.
