Rainbow Footprint Butterfly

Hopefully Spring will be here before we know it and with it it will bring sunshine, flowers and butterflies.  This rainbow footprint butterfly makes a prefect spring craft and keepsake and is a great craft to do alongside reading the book 'The Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle.

How to make a rainbow footprint butterfly

Start by squirting each of your rainbow colours onto a palette.  We used red, yellow, green, blue and purple paint. I tend to squirt my paint onto a paper plate to save the washing up!

Paint a stripe of each colour across your child's feet.  Paint quickly to make sure you don't allow the paint to dry out. For babies and young children I find it easiest to take the prints whilst they are sitting down.  I gave Daisy a spoon to keep her occupied while I create her footprint butterfly keepsake.

Print your child's feet onto a piece of paper or card.  Keep the prints close to each other and make sure the outer edge of each of the print is in the middle of the butterfly print.

  2. Loved it! Do you think it is possible to put paint on only one foot and fold the paper in half in order to print the other side having a mirrored image? Thanks a lot for the wonderful ideas!
